Dean, Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship (R-02030)

Position Description:

Fort Hays State University is a four-year state comprehensive university that is truly student-centered, exemplified by its emphases on exceptional teaching, engaged student mentoring, and proactive advising. The successful candidate for the position of Dean of the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship (RCOBE) will possess a strong ethical orientation and demonstrate a willingness to advocate for the college and its stakeholders.  The Dean will demonstrate accountability and the desire and ability to make strategic, data-driven decisions. The Dean will build upon strong relationships with the citizens of Hays, the wider regional communities of Western Kansas, and our national and international partners. The Dean is a member of the Provost’s Academic Council, President’s Cabinet, Senior Leadership Team, and other university groups and committees related to administrative and planning activities. The appointment is a 12-month academic administrative position, holding appropriate faculty rank, and reporting to the Provost.

Expected Leadership and Managerial Activities:

  • Lead development of the vision, strategy, and goals for the college in alignment with the strategic plans of the university and the Kansas Board of Regents

  • Facilitate collegial governance and healthy morale of the college, including the hiring, development, and supervision of direct reports  

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships and proactive, honest communication with faculty, staff, students, and other constituents while serving as an advocate,  a representative, and the voice of the college

  • Maintain support for activities relevant to teaching, research, professional development, community service/involvement, international partnerships, and campus activities for faculty and staff (on campus, online, and international)

  • Ensure, endorse, and promote quality and assessment of college processes and programs

  • Support institutional and college diversity and inclusion, including the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, staff, and students

  • Effectively manage college budgets and financial resources

  • Collaborate with the FHSU Foundation to cultivate and steward donor relationships 

  • Promote faculty, staff, and student morale, academic citizenship and institutional values within the college and university learning community

  • Coordinate college level processes including tenure/promotion, curriculum development, and college level faculty and staff awards

  • Commit to succession planning at the college and departmental level

  • Develop collegial working relationships with administration, other academic affairs units, university support units and external organizations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution in a business or related field within the college

  • Earned tenure and/or promotion at a regionally-accredited institution

  • Record of academic administrative experience, including both fiscal and supervisory responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Record of success in teaching, scholarship, and service

  • Experience with accreditation activities – regional and/or specialized

  • Experience with international partnerships

  • Experience with online education

  • Excellent communication skills, including written, oral, and the ability to listen to make decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to implement a shared strategic vision while supporting a collaborative work environment

  • Experience in development/fundraising activities

  • Experience with university initiatives including recruitment, retention, promotion, tenure, and program review

  • Industry Experience – working in, or have collaboratively worked with, firms or business units in a local, national or international setting

Rank:  Rank commensurate with experience

Appointment Date: Negotiable
