ROLE of the POSITION
Under the direction and leadership of the Vice President for Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Alumni Engagement and Executive Director of the UNLV Alumni Association directs the comprehensive alumni engagement, alumni advocacy, annual giving, regional development and career services efforts for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), working with deans, senior administrators, Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement personnel, student groups, and the UNLV Alumni Association (UNLVAA) to develop and implement alumni programming to support the University's strategic and operational goals. This role also serves as the Executive Director of the UNLV Alumni Association. The UNLVAA is responsible for developing and implementing alumni engagement programs that raise the visibility of the UNLVAA and UNLV in local, regional, national and international arenas.
The Associate Vice President for Alumni Engagement oversees a functional team of approximately 27 full-time employees to include the supervision of ten positions mostly at the Senior/Director level; serves on the Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement's leadership team, and oversees a 28-member UNLVAA Board of Directors. This position also collaborates and coordinates strategy with the AVP for Development.
The AVP for Alumni Engagement plays a pivotal role in accelerating growth in alumni and annual giving, defined as gifts below $10,000. The AVP for Alumni Engagement creates and leads a unified strategy and outreach effort to create and sustain commitment and engagement among alumni and friends. The AVP designs, leads, and directs the development of annual goals and objectives, operating plans and budgets, staffing, and volunteer management plans for the Alumni Engagement and Advocacy, Annual Giving, Regional Development and Career Services programs.
The AVP for Alumni Engagement provides leadership for a centralized Career Services unit that serves students, alumni, and multiple entities on campus while collaboratively working with and supporting the decentralized and specialized needs of academic departments to support the university's vision to become a Top Tier Institution.

- 120,000+ UNLV graduates
- 14 academic and affinity-based chapters
- 5 regional networks
- more than 80 events hosted annually to engage alumni
- more than 2500 alumni volunteers
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in higher education alumni engagement and development. The position requires a minimum of five to seven years supervisory experience with at least five to seven years of management experience
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Understanding of and appreciation for the mission and goals of the University
- Working knowledge of computer systems and software, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills in interacting with both internal and external constituents with demonstrated integrity and a spirit of enthusiasm for the University
- Strong writing skills for composing letters, reports, presentations, and speeches.
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Creativity and resourcefulness with strategic thinking and problem solving skills
- Collaborative leader who can work well in a large complex organization. Flexibility initiating and responding to changing priorities and situations
- Be an active leader in how to increase alumni participation and engagement through relevant and meaningful events and programs
- Demonstrated capabilities to plan and implement a wide range of activities that produce results based on established goals and objective
- Ability to anticipate and recognize problems, issues, and opportunities as they arise and to advise appropriate administrators and staff
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends as needed
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
