The Scientist will be a member of Dr. Randy Brown's PROTEA research team. The Scientist will work directly with study team members to ensure engagement with research subjects. Current projects include human subjects research involving patients with diagnoses such as opioid use disorder, major depressive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Projects include both industry-sponsored clinical trials and Investigator-initiated trials. Some projects may involve the use of novel, investigational treatments.

This position identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and prepares and/or presents results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

PhD required. Preferred areas of study include psychology, neuroscience, clinical trials, biostatistics, or related.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
  • Experience in research, project and/or grant development and implementation required.
  • Experience in clinical trials required.
  • Experience working on a research program related to Addiction Medicine preferred.
  • Experience developing grants and collecting / analyzing data for a research program in an Academic Medical Center preferred.
  • Experience training research specialists for a specific research program preferred.
  • Knowledge of government regulations and guidelines with respect to clinical and community research preferred.

The ideal candidate will also have experience with:
  • Facilitating (Institutional Review Board) IRB approvals
  • Developing and presenting research findings at meetings and conferences.
  • Authoring and co-authoring publications in peer reviewed journals.

Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience. A minimum of 7 years' experience is required for appointment at the senior level.

Additional Information:

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid work status to work in the United States.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial Caregiver Check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every four years.

This position will be 75%-100% FTE.
