Instructional Professor, Asst

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming Honors College invites applications for the position of Instructional Professor, a one-year appointment with the potential for renewal. The successful candidate will teach six courses per year (75% of the job description) and engage in service to the College and the University (15% of the job description), and maintain an active professional development profile (10% of the job description).

In the field of academic expertise, we seek a PhD in a humanities or social science field. It is imperative that candidates have interest and experience in interdisciplinary approaches to teaching. The successful candidate will teach in our core first-year sequence, an interdisciplinary Colloquium for first-year students in the Honors College. This course is a multi-section, small-seminar-style, theme-based course with readings from multiple disciplines . Candidate will also collaborate with colleagues in the continuing development of these courses. The successful candidate will also offer upper-division humanities or social science-themed seminars.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Minimum qualifications for the position include a PhD or terminal degree, the ability to teach a reading and writing/communications course, the ability to foster multidisciplinary thinking inside and outside of the classroom, the ability to coordinate and support research opportunities for Honors students, and the ability to make significant contributions to teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in scholarly and creative activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• PhD or terminal degree in a humanities or social science field
• Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary instruction at the university level
• Demonstrated experience teaching a readings and writings course, including the ability to lead discussions, teach critical thinking, and offer writing instruction to students from multiple disciplinary backgrounds
• Ability to coordinate and support Honors student research opportunities
• Ability to offer innovative and challenging upper-division courses that bring the humanities or social sciences to a classroom designed for students from a wide-range of majors.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Record of success in interdisciplinary instruction
• Record of success in mentoring undergraduate students in research activity
• Record of success fostering student community within an academic program
• Record of success in conducting and/or coordinating program assessment
