Position Summary
The Criminal Investigator at Morehouse College plays a crucial role in maintaining safety and security on campus. Reporting to the Commander of the Support Services Division, the investigator conducts detailed and thorough investigations, processes crime scenes, collects and tracks evidence, and conducts interviews. They also assist the patrol division by providing specialized services for complex criminal cases.
The investigator acts as a liaison between the law enforcement agency and various campus partners, such as Student Conduct, Housing and Residence Life, Counseling, Title IX, and the Behavioral Intervention Team. They provide victim resource information, advice, and support to these partners as needed. Additionally, the investigator offers training and guidance to other members of the department to enhance the effectiveness of patrol operations.
In an on-call capacity, the investigator provides advice to on-duty personnel and responds to campus to lead investigations. They assist in the administration of public safety for the University campus, ensuring compliance with policy and all federal, state, and local municipal laws.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years of previous law enforcement experience conducting investigations, serving arrest and search warrants, or working in a crime suppression unit or investigative unit that conducted special operations, investigations, and plainclothes or undercover work.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
- Georgia State Certified (P.O.S.T) police officer standards and training.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of law enforcement experience

- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Able to perform duties independently under general supervision.
- Capable of prioritizing and managing multiple projects while adhering to strict timelines.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on conflict resolution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to organize work, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Proficient in writing reports and business correspondence.
- Computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to observe and define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Skilled at multitasking.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of law enforcement.
- Ability to conduct interviews.
Physical Demands
- Work is mostly performed in an outdoor working environment, which may include exposure to heat, freezing rain, cold, snow, etc.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs individually and up to 100 lbs with assistance, retrieve and place materials on high and low shelves, and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, carrying, grasping, hearing, seeing, sitting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
- Ability to effectively use force to effect a physical arrest of a resisting suspect.
