About tag! Children’s Museum (TCM) answers a long, unmet need in St. Augustine and St. Johns County for a children’s museum that will celebrate play and creativity; provide activities that nurture family relationships; establish common ground in communities; and collaborate with other nonprofit and educational organizations to help build creative communities that improve the quality of life and create child and family-friendly environments.
TCM broke ground in October 2021 and is currently in construction development for phase 1 of the
Museum which is estimated to take fourteen months to complete. TCM is the first new cultural institution built in northeast Florida in more than twenty-five years. The Director of Development will be responsible for 1) supporting goals for the current Capital Campaign and 2) developing and implementing a sustainable fundraising department and stewardship program after the Museum is open.
This position will be responsible for building a successful, robust development department and foster interdepartmental work by collaborating with a contract Grant Writer and a Communications and
Marketing vendor.

Core Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, successfully meet the goals for the remainder of the Capital Campaign.
- Develop and implement a $650,000+ annual fundraising plan – including individual gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, and events to achieve our mission and support the annual operating budget.

- In partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, foster and nurture relationships with the Museum’s donors and community through intentional stewardship and cultivation efforts.
- Once TCM is fully open, responsibilities will include managing corporate and individual membership programs to support Museum exhibits, education programs, events, and capital projects.
- Ensure successful operations of the development department including fielding inquiries, managing donor stewardship and communication efforts, and responding to board member requests.
- Ensure best practices in managing the gift process database, Donor Snap, including gift and pledge receipts, invoicing, donor records and acknowledgements.
- Ensure appropriate recognition for donors including building and exhibit naming, event signage, and print, web, and digital recognition.
- Represent the Museum in the community and attend service organization meetings.
- Non-profit experience is a major plus, particularly at a smaller non-profit where multi-tasking and deadline orientation are critical skills.
Measuring Success:
- The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to successfully support the goals for the TCM
Capital Campaign.
- Develop, manage, and achieve the TCM’s annual fundraising goals.
- Demonstrate effective stewardship strategies for building relationships with Museum investors.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and pursue new revenue sources and increase major gifts.
- The successful candidate will set performance metrics for the department, including fundraising goals, as part of the annual budgeting process and set progress benchmarks for review on a quarterly basis.
Desired Experience/Skills:
- A track record of measurable fundraising success.
- Experience building a development program from the ground up.
- 5+ years development experience.
- Superior writing and presentation skills (public speaking a plus).
- The ability to adopt organizational values and represent TMC professionally and warmly.
- Able to adapt, adjust, and recover quickly when faced with challenges – while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Experience with one-on-one solicitation and presentation.
- Ability to monitor and meet income goals.
- Ability to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Experience working in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred

Development of Annual, Major Gift and Planned Gift Fundraising:
- Develops, organizes and implements localized strategies, proposals, presentations and one-on-one gift solicitation to attract and retain annual, major gift and planned giving support
- Responsible for identifying, researching, soliciting, and cultivating corporate, foundation and individual gifts
- Oversees annual fund activities for the museum, letter appeals and online giving initiatives
Donor Recognition:
- Works members on all fundraising special events, all donor events, donor recognition and cultivation efforts
- Leads the Museum’s donor stewardship efforts, including but not limited to written donor reports and donor recognition on digital signage and website
- Works with the Board of Directors on targeted donor appreciation initiatives
