About Westchester Community College:
Westchester Community College was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in White Plains. In 1957, the County of Westchester bought the 360-acre John Hartford estate in Valhalla and designated 218 acres for the community college. Job Description:
Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the Acting Director of The Center for Academic Counseling and Student Success, counselors engage students through effective enrollment and case management interventions and provide service to the College. Counselors' responsibilities include:
Engage Students in Choosing a Career, Degree Program, and a Successful Outcome
Engage Students in Establishing Successful Behaviors & Monitor their Progress
Provide Outstanding Service to the College
Requirements:
Required Qualifications: A Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field and two years of experience in admissions or guidance counseling is required. The successful candidate must also possess knowledge of college courses and programs, counseling techniques; experience in using interactive/community building software such as e-portfolios, Facebook, Zoom, and the ability to relate to community college students of traditional college-age as well as non-traditional students of various ages and diverse educational and socio-economic backgrounds. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. The successful candidate will be able to relate well with students & colleagues and possess a deep desire to help students succeed.
Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual verbal and written fluency preferred. Experience using student information systems such as PeopleSoft and course managers such as Blackboard is desirable. Familiarity with higher education trends, especially those affecting the community college is desirable, as well as knowledge of the Guided Pathways model.
Additional Information:
Work Schedule: The work schedule is Monday through Friday and occasional weekends. Hours are between 9 am and 7 pm. Weekly hours vary with a maximum of 28 hours a week, depending on the time of the year. This is an in-person position.
Position Effective: The position will remain open until filled.
Hourly Rate of Pay: This is a grant-funded position. $45.32 per hour. No benefits.
