Reporting to the EMS Program Director, the Lead Instructor will perform duties assigned under the direction and delegation of the Program Director. These duties will include, but are not limited to, teaching discipline specific courses as needed using a variety of methodologies. The Lead Instructor may teach American Heart Association (AHA) BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses, Initial and Refresher Paramedic courses, as well as PHTLS/ITLS courses in a lecture and lab setting. Paramedic courses utilize the NHTSA National Standard curriculum and the NREMT skills evaluations.

This position includes teaching in Yavapai College EMT, Paramedic and Advanced Community Health/Critical Care courses, as well as continuing education, community education, AHA courses, and lab/simulation teaching. Other duties as assigned.

Typical job duties include but are not limited to following:


  • Assess, plan, present/facilitate and evaluate orientation and education activities to assure competence in job performance and to promote professional development.
  • Promotes the program through marketing and recruitment activities.
  • Performs program assessments, completes annual reports, program reviews, and other administrative duties related to the cohorts taught.
  • Assist the planning, writing, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum/courses for the current academic programs.
  • Adheres to and monitors program accreditation requirements and standards as set forth by AZDHS, CAAHEP, and CoAEMSP.
  • Coordinate and facilitate quality and continuing quality improvement activities to promote quality student outcomes and effective/efficient use of resources.

This position requires excellent oral, written, and electronic communication. The incumbent will need to effectively foster collegial relationships both intra and interdepartmentally, model professional behaviors including involvement with/in professional organizations and engagement in lifelong learning.

 

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

 

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university, ability to obtain bachelor’s degree within 24 months of hire for full-time faculty position.
  • Two or more years of experience working in Emergency Medical Services.
  • Nationally Registered and AZ State Licensed Paramedic
  • Current AHA provider card, and instructor card for BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS/ITLS or the ability to obtain.
  • Instructor methodology totaling 24 hours with experience teaching or training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of personnel and outside agencies.
  • Ability to use database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties.
  • Knowledgeable about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards, and about evidenced-informed clinical practice.
  • Certified by a nationally and state recognized organization at an equal or higher level of professional training than the Emergency Medical Services Profession(s) for which training is being offered.
  • Follows, adheres to, and implements the Standards, Guidelines and Criteria for Accreditation as required by CoAEMSP and CAAHEP.
  • Follows, adheres to, and implements the standards and rules per the Arizona Administrative Code for EMS training programs.

 

Preferred Skills & Abilities

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a closely related field
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Education and experience beyond the minimum qualifications.
  • Membership in professional organizations related to the field of instruction.
  • Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment.
    • Experience with multi-media technology to enhance student learning.
    • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
    • Experience with Student Learning Outcomes Assessment.
